    Enables reduced installation time

One manufacturer invented the “modular” rail concept, built up from straight rail sections and a suite of standard bend sections. This unique process allows the rail portion of the lift to be quickly assembled from stock components, enabling faster delivery and installation than any other curved stairlift on the market. The manufacturer states that a curved rail stairlift installation can take only days instead of up to four to six weeks with its Fast Track Stairlift Installation.

FIVE YEARS IN DEVELOPMENT

A technique has been developed over a five year period and is now in daily use for the manufacture of stair lift rails. This allows an aluminum section to follow the inner path of a spiral stairway (the area not normally used by foot) and not encroach upon the main area of tread.

Curved stairlifts rail tracks are intended specifically for staircases that go around a bend or corner to arrive at the landing. Rails (tracks) are extremely robust usually single or double modular rail track(s) which are fabricated and built to the exact specifications of the staircase. Manufacturers have designed adaptable curved stairlifts that are able to address the most complex of staircases including steep and narrow stairs, 180° turns, numerous bends, curves and corners and stairlifts built to the exact contour of your staircase. These stairlifts are easy to use, with near silent operation, slimline with highly heavy-duty construction offering a smooth and safe ride along the stairs.

With the advanced unique curved modular rail systems, excellence in engineering assures a curved rail stair lift provides a perfectly comfortable ride. Some manufacturers feature a continuous slim, stylish profile and attractively finished rails on either the inner or outer curvature of your staircase. With a wrap-around feature at the bottom of your stairs and unique parking ability, curved stair lifts can tuck cleanly out of the way allowing others to use the staircase normally. Some curved stair lift rails even has the ability to travel down a hallway, allowing a shorter transfer distance between the stairlift and your bedroom or restrooms.

This unique curved modular rail system process allows the rail portion of the lift to be quickly assembled from stock components, enabling faster delivery and installation than other curved stairlifts on the market. A curved stairlift has a unique inside or outside parking capability, ensuring the stairway is not obstructed for use by other members of the household. When not in use, it can easily be folded away. The slim, stylish, yet robust design allows for plenty of access even on narrow stairs and has been designed to be a piece of modern furniture so it blends subtly into your home.

Curved rail stairlifts can also be fitted with an optional powered hinged rail which folds up and out of the way automatically as the stairlift travels up and down the staircase, allowing greater access at the foot of the stairs. This option of a hinged rail is ideal when there may be a doorway near the foot of the stairs. When the stairlift is not is use, the rail is neatly out of the way and causes no obstruction.

Straight rails for use on domestic staircases are usually made from extruded aluminum or steel and come in various cross-sectional shapes. These rails may, typically, weigh over 66 pounds (30kg), depending on the length.

In most applications they are attached to the steps with metal brackets (sometimes called “cleats”). Modern stairlift with a rack and pinion drive system have the rack portion attached to the rail. A hard steel rigid rack attached to the rail and maintains safety and security for the stairlift.

If a rail crosses a doorway at the bottom of the stairs or causes an obstruction a hinged rail can be fitted so the end of the rail can be folded out of the way when not in use.

Some stair lift rails set on the stairs thereby not relying on bracket strength. In addition to stair brackets to fit the rails to the stair treads, battery charging points are located on rails and also stairlift stopping limit ramps for the stairlift stopping points, at the top and bottom of the staircase.

Stairlifts travel the staircase on a track or rail that is generally secured to the stairs, not the wall.  Extruded aluminum and steel are the two principal metals utilized in design and manufacturing.  Due to its malleable qualities, steel is used for custom engineered solutions, while extruded aluminum is normally found in rail design applications because of its lighter weight and interchangeable for custom staircase configurations.  It is the aluminum extrusion method and process that allows aluminum rail to be strong, compatible and rigid.  Steel straight applications are older technology and are difficult to re-configure for a different staircase.
